Kurashiki’s Kojima district has been famous for producing high-quality cotton fabrics since the Edo Period. In recent years, it has garnered global attention as a production site of Japanese denim. Tatami-beri (tatami mat trim) that is also woven in this area is highly regarded for its quality. A tatami-beri maker whose history dates back to the first year of the Meiji Era 150 years ago has made tatami-beri fabric adorned with a Magatama pattern. These small tatami mats trimmed with this fine fabric can be used to beautifully display a variety of objects including tea ware, pottery, vases, dolls, Bonsai trees, and more.
