Tenugui hand towels have been a fixture in many facets of the Japanese lifestyle. Our tenugui hand towels are made with a plain-woven cotton fabric called Tokuoka, known for its high quality and soft feel, which is beautifully hand-dyed with a bold yet intricate Magatama pattern at a dyeing mill in Hokkaido’s Asahikawa City that has been in operation since 1907. The only limit to their use is your imagination, from practical household good to fashion accessories, interior decorations, gifts, and more; enjoy finding your own uses for them just like Japanese people have done for ages. Furthermore, you can also enjoy caring for your tenugui hand towel to develop its softness and texture over time, knowledge that was at one time second-nature in Japan!
Caring for your tenugui hand towel:
Some wearing and fraying on the edges may occur, but that will stop if you cut them off a little bit with scissors at a time. This happens because the edges are left unsewn to help it dry more quickly. Please do not wash it with synthetic detergents or in hot water, dry it in direct sunlight, or leave it wet. By following this advice, your hand towel will gradually become softer over time and the color will also take on a calmer appearance. Please enjoy the way it changes over time!
